Took the week off to chase these bugs

Of course a cold front kicked in upon my arrival, but opportunities still were had, and the hammock camping program was 11/10. I can’t remember the last time I was able to sleep in this late.

Wife’s doing a “girls weekend” so I’m priming for a tying and drinking marathon. Had a great Tuesday with Davesnothere except for a bit of heat exhaustion. So need to tie up a bunch of small tarpon flies for next week.

Drink isn’t for the purists. But good for a hot Florida summer - with a hat tip to Hemingway. 1.5 oz Bacardi Lime Rum over crushed ice, teaspoon simple syrup, and slices of fresh lime. Boom!

Wrapped up our mayfly season at Bears “swimmin-hole” camp the other weekend. His dad would take him to the swimmin hole when he was a kid and would tell him that if he waded past his knees they’d have to go home. Little did Bear know when he was 6, is that the swimmin hole’s a 5-star hex location. Over the past 4-5 years we’ve finally dialed in the timing, etc. Bear took his old man fishing at the swimmin hole this year bringing it all full circle.

Steamin, Twav, and the birds were all there too. Including steamin’s bro load boy. Good camp time, good camp meals (including smoked venison bbq snads, and bears smoked venison brats), all mixed with the big bugs we dream about all winter.

With this weird medical stuff going on, I threw caution to the wind, got a hall pass from my wife to go on an adventure, and dragged along a buddy who’s an ER nurse. Best medicine around.
